Auckland Council’s 21 local boards have shifted their work online, making essential business and community support a priority over the coming weeks.
Some of March’s formal monthly meetings were cancelled for public health and safety reasons, but the Government’s COVID-19 Response Bill – passed on Wednesday evening – means that boards will be able to resume their business meetings online and still meet legislative requirements.>>
Auckland Council’s Community and Social Policy Department is working to update Council’s 10-year community development plan – the Thriving Communities Action Plan. This plan was published in 2014 and it is being updated so that it can better reflect Auckland’s population growth and changing demographics. This plan directs how Council supports community led development and invests in communities through: events, festivals, grants, community leases, community programmes, social procurement, community facilities (such as libraries, community centres), capacity building support, community partnerships and more. This oral history documentary celebrates the origins of Project Twin Streams.
Twenty six original contributors to the project shared their recollections and vision. At the recent launch of this documentary celebrating 15 years of Project Twin Streams, Over the last 15 years the project has welcomed over 15,000 volunteers who – together with four contracted community organisations Community Waitakere, EcoMatters, MPHS and Te Ukaipo – have planted over 800,000 native plants. The project has encompassed environmental restoration, creative arts and education to engage West Auckland communities and inspire sustainability and connectedness. More >>
