WELCOME!

In this Newsletter we're celebrating the chance to reconnect in person, with festivals, workshops, events and opportunities to get involved in our local community as well as celebrating project launches and success stories from our local creatives.

Firstly, thanks to Nat Rose Te Hei (Ngāti Porou, Tainui) and all those who took part in our Matariki Workshops.  Nat offered two fantastic and fully booked creative and crafty workshops giving local tamariki the opportunity to make their very own clay kōauau (flute), learn a song to go with it, and also learn how to weave their own whāriki (woven mat) to take home.

Look who has had a brand re-fresh!! Launching TODAY is our new look for Te Atatu Food Truck Fridays

Making the most of our time during COVID-19 Lockdown we refreshed the Food Truck Friday brand and signage - because we think this fabulous local event deserves to stand out!  We hope you like it as much as event organiser Joseph Erceg does. We can't wait to see you all again on Friday 2 Oct. SAVE THE DATE!  Follow the event on Facebook and Instagram to learn which food trucks will be joining each month, and to learn the line-up of arts activities and entertainment taking place at each event.

At Te Atatu Food Truck Friday on 4 December, we're bringing you the first ever ArtBoot event. Created by the maker of the well established ArtAche events Aimee Rafini, ArtBoot will present 6 local artists who will create a series of special edition artworks to sell from the boot of their cars, along with a selection of studio treasures.  ArtBoot will combine local car culture, art and artists in a way that is fun and accessible!

A NEW project we've been awaiting with much anticipation is I'M JUST OLDER DARLING, a podcast series featuring the elders of our community.

The role of this project is to provide Same Same But Black audience, friends and members of the LGBQTTIA and People Of Colour Community (P.O.C), of Henderson-Massey with a positive image of themselves in a supportive and safe environment.

Each podcast interview will capture a snapshot on how our community looks from the interviewees’ point of view and provide a platform to hear their voices and stories.  We are grateful to Michelle Mascoll for coming up with this project idea during Lockdown and it couldn't be more vital than ever at a time when we all need more connection and understanding among each other.

I'M JUST OLDER DARLING is set to launch next month! To ensure you are the first to hear, follow  the project on Instagram @samesamebutblack and sign-up to the newsletter at www.samesamebutblack.co.nz. You can also learn more about the project on our Creative Henderson-Massey PROJECTS page

THIS WEEK we're wishing Katrina Mois all the best when she tutors her very first offical 5 week Art Course for Children.  Local Massey mother Katrina got in touch for advice when she was keen to establish a “start-up” business running children’s art therapy workshops. Katrina is an accountant by profession and enjoys balancing this side of her life with her creative ideas. She experienced the benefits of her workshops when teaching her children and friend's children so she would like to grow the idea and dream big.

We're thrilled that her first course is fully booked! For those who missed out, you're welcome to 'register' your interest in future courses with Katrina, by emailing creativehendersonmassey@gmail.com

In our next Newsletter we'll be introducing you to more Creative Henderson Massey Projects, including a documentary on local artist Edith Amituanai, and a youth mentorship programme for aspiring artists, offered by locals Junelle and Abraham Kunin - who just released an album with the Dalai Lama which hit #1 on the music charts. Inspirational! So stay creative and keep in touch.  I'm here to assist your creative project ideas and ambitions, no matter what stage they are at!  I look forward to hearing from you.

ABOUT CREATIVE HENDERSON-MASSEY
Creative Henderson-Massey is an initiative from the Henderson-Massey Local Board to support and enable community-led arts activities throughout the Henderson-Massey area. It involves having an Arts Broker, whose role is to identify, curate, programme and enable community arts activities.

"As the Arts Broker, I work with local artists and creative organisatations to offer support in the development and delivery of their creative ideas and projects, whether this be assisting with funding, marketing, or helping to find the right location or people to work with.

I’m interested in hearing from you and helping to get your creative projects off the ground, even if they’re just an ‘idea’. It could be dance, film, craft, visual arts, music, kapa-haka, spoken word, digital arts, a publication, a performance or an exhibition.

Please forward this email to your fellow creative contacts and colleagues, encouraging them to learn about Creative Henderson-Massey and what it has to offer our local community" -  Renée Tanner Creative Henderson-Massey Arts Broker
