T?n? koe,

Voting in the 2019 local elections gets underway this month. Make sure you are enrolled and know how to vote!

It’s not too late to enrol to vote!

Visit vote.nz, call 0800 36 76 56 or go to any PostShop. If you enrol after 16 August, you won’t get your voting papers in the mail – you will have to make a special vote.

How to vote

Voting papers will be mailed out from 20 September. When you get your voting papers in the mail, read the instructions, fill out the voting paper, put it in the envelope and post it, or put it in a ballot box.

To find your nearest post box or ballot box, click here and type in your address. If you need to make a special vote, click here to find out more.

Make sure you get your vote in on time – voting closes at midday on Saturday 12 October.

One stop shops

The easiest way to enrol and make a special vote is to come to one of our “one stop shops”. You will be able to enrol, complete your ballot paper, and put your vote in the ballot box, all in one place.

Look out for our one-stop shops at night markets, weekend markets and marae around Auckland from Wednesday 25 September to Friday 11 October 2019. Keep an eye on OurAuckland to find out about the one stop shops.

Get to know your candidates

To find out who your candidates are and what they say about themselves, go to candidate search. Most candidates will be on social media as well.

To see the candidates first hand and hear what they have to say, go along to a meet-the-candidate event in your area. Community groups across Auckland are also holding events with candidates and will advertise these locally. Also some of the schools in the youth voting programme are running meet the candidate nights in their area. Community groups can go to Our Auckland on the council website to advertise these events. Check out what’s happening here – the events are at the bottom of the page.

Vote Friday

On Friday 4 October, we'll be giving all Auckland Council staff 30 minutes to go and vote, and we want other organisations and companies around Auckland to do the same.

Click here to register for Vote Friday and show your company's support of democracy and commitment to driving voter participation.
