The Auckland Council and Local Boards together have a huge influence in our communities and neighbourhoods. Everything from the way in which our rubbish is collected, to our local libraries, the rules that determine how we can sell and buy alcohol and a myriad of other matters are facilitated and governed by local government.

In developing policies and regulations and undertaking these activities, Auckland Council is constantly interacting with communities. It seeks feedback through submissions on everything from Local Board Annual Plans to Council Long Term Plans, to regulations governing the sale of synthetic cannabis. At the same time, Auckland Council proactively seeks to engage with communities as it develops policies and plans that will shape our day to day lives for years to come. In the midst of all this activity it is easy for communities and smaller groups to feel overwhelmed and unclear about how to be heard.

Community Waitakere are committed to ensuring the unique insights and expertise of grass roots community are brought to the notice of ‘decision -makers’. We contribute by assisting groups and individuals that are looking to get involved in influencing either Auckland Council or their Local Board. We can run workshops on how to make effective submissions and work with groups on particular issues that are of interest or concern to them. We also make both written and oral submissions ourselves in relation to council plans and policies that will have particular impact on our communities.
