Community Waitakere is governed by the following Board members:
Tony Mayow (Chair) Tony has had 30 years in community development, in community and local authority settings. His final position was Group Manager, Strategic Partnerships and Advocacy at Waitakere City Council. The section led Council’s work on strategic relationships with communities and central government agencies. Since 2004 Tony has been self employed, working on strategic brokerage, community development and local government issues. He is committed to building a strong community and voluntary sector based on collaborative leadership. He has developed a deep interest and specialty in community sector governance. In addition to Chairing Community Waitakere, he has a national role as President of the NZ Federation of Voluntary Welfare Organisations. He also chairs the Board of Man Alive, and is Vice Chair of Te Korowai Ture o Waitakere, the Waitakere Community Law Service. Tony has recently joined the Board of the Auckland Communities Foundation, is a member of the Impact Research Advisory Board, and is involved with the Auckland Community Development Alliance
Andrew Wood (Treasurer) Andrew has been a member of the Community Waitakere Board for the last 4 years and is also a Board member of Te Korowai Ture o Waitakere, the Waitakere Law Centre. He was previously on the Kids Help Foundation Trust as a Board member. Originally from the UK, Andrew brings enthusiasm and knowledge from over 25 years experience within the social welfare sector in the U.K, Channel Islands and now New Zealand where he has held a number of operational, management and service development roles within a variety of local government, government and community organisations, including five years with Barnardos. He is currently a Social Infrastructure Planner at Waitakere City Council, a position that was created in late 2006 and has lived in Waitakere for the last 6 years. Chris Davidson  I have been on the Community Waitakere Board since 2007. It has been a privilege to support the valuable work of the organisation to the extent I have been able. I live with my partner and four year old daughter in Laingholm. Raising a family in Waitakere provides a drive for me to contribute what I can to help create a better community. I bring a number of years experience working in the community. Since 2002 I have worked at Waitakere Abuse and Trauma Counselling Service, and more recently as Chief Executive of Man Alive. The skills I am able to bring include studies in sociology (Master of Philosophy, Massey University); which included a thesis exploring the nature of volunteering in Waitakere City. Prior to this I spent several years working as a Chartered Accountant.
Penny Hulse  For the past 18 years Penny has worked closely with Mayor Bob Harvey to establish the eco-city brand for Waitakere City Council and together they have successfully enshrined Community Wellbeing, Local Economic Development and Sustainability into the way city policies are developed. Penny chairs the Policy and Strategy Committee and is currently Deputy Mayor. She is a member of the Mayoral Taskforce on Family Violence and chairs the Crime Prevention Reference Group. At a community level Penny is a Trustee on the Swanson Railway Station Trust and the WAVES Trust. She is Patron of the WALSH Trust and Waitakere Special Olympics and a Director of EECA (Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority). She is married to Paul and has two wonderful sons both of whom have graduated from Auckland University and who are a constant source of pride to her.
Kay Lindley  I am the Healthy Lifestyles Cluster Manager at HealthWEST PHO and wear many hats. I have been on the Board of Community Waitakere since 2005 and also sit on the boards of Waitakere Health Link, Waitakere Online and Fitness NZ, and am on the executive committee of New Out West. My passion is in promoting the More People More Active More Often message and to encourage the Waitakere Community to eat healthier food. I am also very passionate about Community Waitakere, seeing it as the major Community Development organisation for the region.
David Kenkel
David Kenkel lives with his partner and children in West Auckland. His working background includes social work, counselling, family therapy, group facilitation, men*s stopping violence programmes, policy work and child advocacy. David has worked extensively alongside children and families struggling with difficulties and hardship and in particular with children who witness violence in the home. He regards the children and families he has worked with as his best teachers. David was previously a Child advocate for UNICEF New Zealand and an advisor for the Office of the Children's Commissioner. He now lectures part time in Social Work and is active in his local community in areas such as collaborative projects with Local Authorities to prevent family violence. He often consults and presents on advocacy with children who have witnessed violence. Stephen Parker  Stephen lives with his wife and children on a block in Oratia. He has worked 34 yrs for the same multinational group and is currently the GM/Director in NZ, reporting to Sydney and a member of the regional Board. He was a senior executive in the European organisation before asking to transfer to NZ for lifestyle reasons in 2004. In his work he gained significant experience of committee work and represented his company and industry bodies at both national and European level. He chaired the UK body for 3 years and was the UK “expert” delegate to the Council of Europe. Over the last 5 years he has served as a trustee, chaired the Finance sub-cttee for a while, and is currently Chair of the Board for VisionWest Community trust (formerly The Friendship Centre Trust). He is passionate about ensuring that the “community sector” has input from and access to the best business practise/expertise.
