West Auckland Māori Thought Leadership Collective
Originally established in 2017, the collective evolved out of a network / hapori of practice for kaimahi Māori and hapori leaders (both from Māori and non-Māori organisations).
The collective meet and identify collective kaupapa to support West Auckland Māori communities. Since 2022, Community Waitākere have backboned the collective hosting monthly hui.
Together, they have focused on marae support, local civic engagement, local board long term plan recognition, research kaupapa and a toy drive.
These gatherings have become a cornerstone for driving meaningful change, enabling the group to focus on initiatives that address the evolving needs of Māori communities.
In 2023, the collective prioritised marae support, civic engagement, and ensuring Māori perspectives were recognised in local board long-term plans. They also advanced kaupapa research and organised a successful toy drive to bring joy to tamariki and whānau during the holiday season.
This collective demonstrates the power of collaboration, amplifying the voices of Māori communities and fostering a future grounded in partnership, equity, and cultural resilience. Community Waitākere is proud to be provided backbone support for convening this kaupapa. Thanks to Henderson-Massey and Waitākere Ranges Local Boards for providing contributing funds to support this important mahi.
