Climate Action

Providing meaningful experiences to inspire participants to take action.

Community Waitākere believes that the environment, climate and community are inextricably linked, and that we cannot have a healthy community without a healthy environment and climate.

The Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment has clearly stated the importance of community-based conservation not only for its contribution to safeguarding our environment for future generations, but also as an important social construct in our society.

We know that people want to connect with their local areas and we think that everyone can see and understand the value of te taiao environment, and can participate in protecting it.

The experiences we provide are meaningful and inspire participants to take further positive action as individuals and groups further their understanding of their role in creating positive change.

Supported by Henderson-Massey and Waitākere Ranges Local Boards, our climate action programme brings together our environmental and community work to encourage community engagement and responses to climate change.

Our key focus areas are a more socially just transition to lower carbon living and the building of community resilience.
