Climate Action networking

We believe that the environment, climate and community are inextricably linked, and that we cannot have a healthy community without a healthy environment and climate.

The Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment recently clearly stated the importance of community-based conservation not only for its contribution to safeguarding our environment for future generations, but also as an important social construct in our society. We know that people want to connect with their local areas. We think that anyone has the right to easily access nature, to see and understand its values, and to participate in protecting it.

The experiences we provide are relevant and meaningful and inspire participants to take further positive action as individuals and groups understand what role they can play in creating positive change.

We have launched a climate action programme that brings together our environmental and community work to encourage community engagement and responses to climate change. We are working with Auckland Council and local boards to deliver on climate change plans.

Our key focus areas are a more socially just transition to lower carbon living and the building of community resilience. We have developed a stronger network of those already working in the area in west Auckland, built a social media platform and offered a micro-grants scheme for community activities in association with Matariki celebrations.
