Te Au o Te Koopua
The name Te Au o Te Koopua was gifted to Community Waitākere by Te Kawerau a Maki, and we are incredibly honoured and humbled to have been bestowed with it. It is a place that holds great mana, as our community space sits on ancestral land where iwi once gathered to support each other; just as we do in our mahi today.
Au, comes from Te Au o Te Whenua, an ancestor of Maki. Koopua, means deep pool, signifying this are being at the meeting of the two streams: Opanuku and Waikumete.
