West Auckland Community Response Study

To Flood and Cyclone events

Why and how we might work together to achieve better responses into the future.

Last year, Community Waitākere commissioned a research project looking into the West Auckland community response to the flood and cyclone events. We would like to acknowledge Denise Bijoux and her team from Catalyse for completing this piece of work and the many community organisations who gave their valuable time to feedback on their experiences. The production of this report was supported strongly by the partners in West Auckland Together.

The report highlights several interesting and useful observations that we believe will assist all of us to take action now to build on what worked well and have robust discussions on what didn’t work well and why and how we might work together to achieve better responses into the future. We acknowledge this report does not sit in isolation as there are other studies that have taken place including the Waitākere Ranges Resilience Planning report.

We will be organising a hui potentially in late April to bring together the community partners and stakeholders to discuss and decide on what actions can be taken for our West Auckland communities. If you would like to express an interest in attending, please email info@communitywaitakere.org.nz
